Barbarian Women to face Springbok Women's XV at Twickenham

Barbarian FC is thrilled to announce the return of Barbarian Women with a first home double header on Saturday 27 November, when they will face the Springbok Women's XV in The Killik Cup Double Header.

The match at Twickenham Stadium will take place following the men's fixture - Barbarian FC v Samoa - subject to approval and local licences, with tickets available now for a day full of exhilarating rugby and entertainment for all ages, kicking off with a Minis Rugby Festival on the famous Twickenham pitch.

It is the first time the Barbarians have hosted a men's and women's match on the same day.

John Spencer, President of Barbarian FC, said: "After a challenging 18 months for rugby around the world, we are delighted to return to Twickenham Stadium with a men's and women's double header fixture this Autumn.

"We are proud to support women's rugby globally with the formation of the women's side in 2017 and lead the way in encouraging world-famous sides to create similar opportunities for the women's game.

"Hosting a men's and women's side back-to-back at Twickenham is another significant step forward and we are looking forward to welcoming tens of thousands of our rugby family back to HQ on Saturday 27 November."

Lynne Cantwell, South Africa's Women's High Performance Manager - and Ireland's most-capped player - said: "We are honoured to be playing the Barbarians as part of our preparations for the Rugby World Cup in 2022. It is one of the most famous and storied clubs in the world and we are hugely proud to be part of that history.

"We know Barbarian Women will be a formidable test with a team full of high-calibre players from around the world, and the match will provide us with an opportunity to pitch ourselves against stars of the game ahead of the Rugby World Cup."

The match-up against Barbarian Women is the culmination of Springbok Women's Autumn tour, who will also face France.

Katie Sadleir, World Rugby's General Manager, Women's Rugby, commented: "We're excited this historic fixture between Barbarian Women and Springbok Women's XV is taking place following the Springbok Women's match against France. At World Rugby, we are committed to changing and transforming women's and girls' rugby and take our responsibility to the global game very seriously. Women's rugby is on the rise and the opportunity to showcase the game at Twickenham Stadium with Barbarian Women and Springbok Women's XV is hugely significant."

Barbarian Women last played in November 2019 against Wales Women at the Principality Stadium, winning 29-15.

Barbarian Women's Team Manager Fiona Stockley added: "We are hugely excited for the return of the Barbarian Women to Twickenham. Welcoming the Springbok Women's XV to HQ alongside the men's team playing Samoa marks the continued development of the side and our mission to promote the Barbarians as one club, welcoming to all and promoting our values across the globe."

Saturday 27 November will bring a day packed full of rugby entertainment and world-class action. The opening Minis Rugby Festival will give youngsters a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to run out on the famous Twickenham turf before attention turns to the two headline fixtures: Barbarians v Samoa and Barbarian Women v Springbok Women's XV.
